In 1991-1997 the expert of the Soviet Union and Russian state and departmental delegations in the negotiations with the Republic of Estonia on economic and political issues.
1997 - present - associate Professor and then Professor of the Department of European studies and Director of the international master's programme "Research of the Baltic and Nordic countries" at the faculty of international relations in the St. Petersburg state University. Member of the Scientific Council of the St. Petersburg state University.
1997 - present – the senior researcher, leading researcher, chief researcher, head of laboratory of cross-border cooperation at the Institute of regional Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Member of the Scientific Council of IRESRAS.
Scientific interests: the international relations in the region of the Baltic Sea and the Central Europe, economic diplomacy and economy of the CIS countries and Baltic states, border and cross-border cooperation.
Under the scientific direction of Mezhevich N.M. 9 Ph.D. theses on the economic and political Sciences are defended.
Member of three dissertation councils (the world economy; economic and social geography at the St. Petersburg state University; regional economy in IRESRAS).
Mezhevich N.M. is the author of 12 monographs, the co-author of the federal tutorial, the author of ten textbooks, he has published more than 350 scientific papers in the USSR, Russia, Finland, Bulgaria, Poland, Estonia, Germany, USA.
